VA: Vienna town manager throws out first pitch for Baltimore Orioles

MI: Imlay City mayor addresses complaint made against city manager

Mayor stands behind city manager Craig Horton in spat with Lapeer County sheriff deputy. The deputy alleged the city manager contacted the sheriff and attempted to get him disciplined or fired after he made a social media post disparaging the city’s public safety millage proposal.

However, the Lapeer County Sheriff also backed the manager and stated that Horton only reached out to confirm that the sheriff was still in support of the proposal.

PA: Former Dubois City Manager Herm Suplizio case gets third extension

Suplizio and another employee stands accused of stealing around $800,000 over more than a decade, according to this press release from the United States Department of Justice.

FL: Former Manatee County Administrator enters plea of not guilty

CA: Santa Ana bans short-term rentals immediately under urgency ordinance

Santa Ana officials are joining a host of OC cities in cracking down on short-term rentals, more commonly known as Airbnbs, and explicitly banning them from town amid noise complaints and parking problems.

Proponents of the ban – including members of Unite Here Local 11, a union made up of hotel, restaurant and airport workers – argued short-term rentals raise rents, increase the cost of living within the city and cause a variety of disturbances in local neighborhoods.

TX: Mayor of border town resigns after arrested on drug trafficking charges

Progreso Mayor Gerardo “Jerry” Alanis resigned Thursday, nearly three weeks after Homeland Security Investigations arrested him on drug trafficking charges.

Informants told the government Alanis participated in a scheme to store and package drugs at Dorothy Thompson Middle School in Progreso, according to U.S. Border Patrol Agent Pablo Barrera, who testified during a hearing on March 21.

AZ: Emotional Horst praises his Maricopa staff — a team of champions

Maricopa’s Ricky Horst lauded his staff in an emotional “changing of the guard” moment at the last council meeting.

“I’ve been on a lot of winning teams my entire career, but I’ve only been on one championship team. That’s the city of Maricopa.”
