CO: City manager says culture shift apparent in Durango municipal government
Durango City Manager José Madrigal joined the city in December 2020.

‘Career growth, good teamwork,’ and ‘belief in mission’ score highly on employee survey.

Council set the city manager’s 2024 pay at $230,000 with an additional $20,000 in employee health insurance premiums and PTO contributions or deferred compensation. The mayor said the total package represents an increase in compensation of about 6.8%.
“We’re a top-five city in the state of Minnesota … top five in almost everything,” Mayor Case said during the meeting, making note of high marks from residents in the every-other-year survey conducted by the city. “We need to compensate in that range. You don’t pay your leader the 27th most salary when we’re No. 1 in everything.”
MI: No traffic stops for minor infractions, Ypsilanti City Council instructs police
The Ypsilanti City Council instructed its police department not to make traffic stops for minor infractions like cracked windshields or misplaced registration stickers under a unanimously passed resolution on Tuesday night.
The move was met with criticism by residents, who said a resolution is insufficient and an ordinance, mirroring Ann Arbor’s driving equality ordinance, is what they want. Ordinances establish permanent local regulations while resolutions have less power, often serving to establish an official stance.

Howard was found to have violated Tenets 3 & 7 of the Code of Ethics. She made news regarding some shoplifting offenses that ultimately culminated in a nasty citizen-led recall effort that brought tumult to the governing body. She was terminated in early 2024.
